I am a PhD researcher at the National Marine Science Centre. I am investigating the drivers of coral reef ecosystem metabolism using chemical analysis of total alkalinity and dissolved inorganic carbon. By studying sites with estimates of calcification and photosynthesis spanning 50 years, we can determine changes to the coral ecosystem and better understand how changing ocean conditions may affect reefs. By estimating metabolic rates at new sites, we provide a baseline for which to compare future studies to. In particular, I am interested in spatial and methodological variability in ecosystem metabolic studies.
