Professor Danny Smoak visits NMSC

Professor Donny Smoak from the University of South Florida visited the Southern Cross University’s National Marine Science Centre (NMSC) in Coffs Harbour last week. Professor Smoak worked with Dr. Christian Sanders and Ceylena Holloway to update gamma laboratory analysis systems. Part of the work involved investigating and dating sediment cores from mangroves, sea grass and salt marshes in Coffs Harbour, Coal Seam Gas sites in Queensland, pristine mangroves in northern Australia and heavily disturbed Ecosystems in Peru, the Amazon and New Zealand. Time was also spent time discussing future collaborations investigating the coastal wetland sediment accumulation and sea level rise relationships Australia and North America.
